What if the legendary person we know as “jolly old Saint Nick” actually started out as a selfish, self-centered young wood carver? And what if his love of money had alienated him from his friends and especially his child hood sweetheart? And what if a mysterious stranger showed up, looking for…? Enough of what if!
The Christmas Carving, directed by Carol Puckett, is the story of Nicholas Walken, a talented woodcarver who struggles to make ends meet. A hard life has convinced him that only money is important, even more than his love life and his friends. Then, just before Christmas, a mysterious Stranger arrives in their village of Nordovik, looking for a very special person for whom he has very special plans, and things change forever for Nicholas.
The Christmas Carving is full of songs that will entertain you, and the story may even touch your spirit, as well as your funny-bone.
Tickets: Adults, $10. Twelve and under, $5. All tickets general admission at the door.
The show is staged in the historic old Burleson School building, now the home of the Hartselle Fine Arts Center. The venue is on the state Historic Register, and the auditorium, with its unspoiled turn of the century architecture, excellent acoustics and magnificent balcony, make for a beautiful theatre.
Please join us for a delightful evening that will put you in the true spirit of Christmas, and at the same time allow you to support the continued growth of the arts in Hartselle.
